Getting Value from Security: Understanding Passkey Adoption
Organised by Nathan Clarke
Passkeys are widely regarded as the successor to passwords, yet their adoption has been slower than anticipated. This talk examines authentication as a service and considers the value users expect it to deliver. Drawing on evidence from a Q-methodology investigation, the talk presents several distinct viewpoints towards passkeys, demonstrating that non-adoption is driven by diverse perceptions rather than a single underlying barrier. These perspectives suggest that improving adoption will require targeted interventions that address the specific concerns and priorities of different user groups.
